The Corcoran Art Education programs prepare graduates to innovate and educate in elementary and secondary schools, as well as in museums and community-based programs. Throughout the program, classroom work and practicum experiences all emphasize the shared principles of art education as applied to varied situations and diverse learners of all ages. Our ultimate goal is to activate the creative energy and positive social impact that results from integration of schools, museums, community institutions, and social service through art.
Each distinct Art Education degree program at the Corcoran is structured around an interactive cohort of students and faculty who work closely together throughout the program. Approximately one half of the courses in each Masters program are open to students in both the MAT and MA Art Education programs. This dual design allows cross-fertilization of experience and ideas, while providing a forum for the special concerns and interests of each group.
Special Benefit for Art Teachers
Full-time art teachers, nation-wide, are eligible for tuition free Art
Education and Studio courses at the Corcoran, for credit, on a “space
available,” non-degree basis. Art teachers considering application
to a degree program may inquire about credit transfer policies associated
with entering a degree program.
