Applicants are required to complete the in-person interview. The meeting is
an occasion for the applicant to tour the facilities, receive in-depth information
about the program and course offerings, discuss potential transfer credits
and learn about future career and internship opportunities. Once receipt
of all application materials by the Admissions Office has been confirmed,
applicants may contact the program’s director to arrange the personal
interview.

The résumé or curriculum vitae (CV) submitted should be a brief
account of the candidate’s professional or work-related experience and
qualifications. Depending on the background of the applicant, these accounts
could include employment history, education, travel, publications, presentations,
professional activities and honors. All applicants must include positions held
and dates of employment, if applicable.

The statement of interest and intentions should be 300–500 words (typically
one to two pages) and is an opportunity for the candidate to describe to the
Committee on Admissions the reasons for pursuing studies in the intended program.
This description may include why this particular graduate program has been
selected.

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions must be submitted
for evaluation, including community colleges, study abroad, and certificate
studies. Secondary/high school transcripts are not required. Official transcripts
(signed and sealed by the issuing institution) should be requested from colleges,
universities, or institutions attended and submitted unopened to Graduate
Admissions.

Applicants to the Interior Design or Exhibition Design programs are not required
to submit a portfolio. However, applicants with studio background should
feel free to do so as it can give the Admission Committee insight into their
level of preparation. Applicants who are seeking exemption from any studio
prerequisites, or who wish transfer credit for any graduate level studio
course work, must present a portfolio at the time of their interview. The
portfolio should consist of 15–25 examples of art and/or design work,
which will be reviewed for skills and ideas that indicate a potential for
success in the program of study.

Send samples of at least six original works of art, including at least one
drawing, either in the form of slides or as digitized images. A range presenting
diverse styles, diverse approaches and a variety of two- and three-dimensional
media is preferable. All media are eligible. Do not send original works of
art. Effort will be made to return portfolio images, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Portfolio submissions of admitted students will be retained for course preparation.

The writing sample should be any complete, polished prose text (e.g., essay,
review, project plan, creative writing piece, etc.), written by the student
within the last three years, either for an academic course, college publication,
or competition, or in the course of professional work or community activities.
Typical length is 3–10 pages (typed or printed; a chapter or section
of a longer text is fine). Sections of personal or academic journals are
not recommended. Please select one, or at most two, short writing samples.
The writing sample must be entirely the work of the applicant, except for
limited final editing in the case of published submissions.
