Summer 2008
Pre-College Programs
FOCUS on Fine Art Photography
Spend Your Summer Immersed in the Pre-College
Experience at the Corcoran.
In 2007, the Corcoran launched FOCUS on Fine Art Photography, an innovative
program offering high school students an intensive introduction to photography
as a form of art and self-expression. Drawing on the Corcoran’s
nationally recognized faculty, this two-week residential program combine
lectures, visits to museums and galleries, individual critiques, and
ample studio and shooting time. Typical day sessions include a lecture
by a faculty member or guest speaker, a showing of great images that
bear on the day’s topic, and an open-ended assignment that enlarges
each student’s understanding of how photography functions on a
purely aesthetic basis. Students work both digitally and with film, and
experiment with a variety of photographic genres and subjects.
